2015 nesting error
« on: Feb 24, 2015, 16:26:40 PM »
When trying to nest (nest & nc) I get a popup indicating "Error Opening Deferred File" and that "Access is Denied". We are upgrading from 2012 (lok 21) to 2015 and I have tried both ways, with the migration tool, as well as simply editing the configuration to point to the old (copy of) database. It seems to write the nc files after clicking through about two dozen of the notifications indicated above. Doesn't seem to be following the numbering sequence specified in the "nc.ini" file either.

Any suggestions? I've searched the forum here and cannot find any references to this error.

A little more info:

We're using Windows 8.1 with Autodesk Fabrication CAMduct. Version 2012 has been running without a hitch for at least six months now, just 2015 throwing this error. Haven't tried the nc files that are being generated, looking to get rid of the invasive error (popup) first.

We keep our database on a separate drive and path the configuration to point to this location. Standalone install with local license (not network license).

A reboot seemed to correct the nc numbering to follow the "nc.ini" file, just the annoying popup left.

Alright, the access denied is related to Microsoft's confounded "User Policies". The "Access Denied" and "Unable to Open Deferred File" led me to believe it was the security policy for the individual (Windows) user. When right clicking the Fabrication 2015 icon and selecting "Run as Administrator" the problem goes away.

For crying out loud, what a way to waste an entire morning!

Changing the "User Account Control Settings" within windows did not correct the issue. To permanently fix the issue I had to:

>Right click on the Fabrication CAMduct 2015" icon on the desktop
>Go to "Properties"
>On the "Shortcut" tab select the "Advanced" option
>Select the checkbox "Run as Administrator"

Easy-peasy.  ;)

I just might get drunk after work (if I can wait that long)...  :o

Glad I was able to figure it out. We've moved forward to 2015 on the CAD side, so going back is not an option!

I believe we're using Windows 8.1 Home Edition if that makes a difference (as opposed to the Professional edition). I seem to remember some references to file permissions in other threads, but I wasn't able to find any that described what I was seeing. Hopefully the keywords will provide results for future searches like you say should anyone else encounter this.

Carry on!  8)

This deserves a bump since we just went through this with our 2018 install.  8)
