BIM 360 Glue
« on: Apr 03, 2016, 14:10:56 PM »
Within 2 weeks I contracted to do 2 different projects that are using Glue.  I'm trying to find the best way to do this out of CAD with Fabrication but at this point I am just uploading NWC's of the files I want to Glue.  I would rather just glue from CAD if I can and keep my steps minimal.  I found this help article on autodesk's site about using the fab viewer to glue from but nothing happens after I select the items to glue and give it a name.  Anyone else having luck with using Glue?  I am on all 2016 products.

In Fabrication CADmep 2016, select the BIM360 tab on the ribbon. You should see the Glue It button. Does that do anything when you select it? It should ask you to save the model (if you haven't) and login into your Autodesk Account. After that it enables you to upload the model.

When I ise that glue button in the ribbon, it does glue the model. But the model is blank.  So I tried to search the process in case I was doing something wrong, and found that autodesk help article that I linked in the original post.

Did you receive both of these messages when gluing your model?

16.When you are ready to begin the upload to Glue, click Glue It.
A status indicator dialog "Gluing in Progress. Your model is being glued." details the progress of the upload.

17.Click OK on the status indicator dialog to close it. The upload continues in the background.
18.When the model has been successfully glued, the message "Your model has successfully glued." displays

Yes I did.  And then I checked glue to view the model and its shown in the models list, but when you view it, there is nothing there.

Did you zoom all. You can go to the model tab and expand your layers. If there is truly nothing there than this would be blank

Just glued it again.  Opened up the model and zoomed all and nothing is there.  All of the layers in my file are shown just like your screenshot shows, but there are no objects shown.

Doug had emailed me and had me send him the file so he could glue it to his site.  He showed me that it is there, but very tiny.  What would make it zoom out like that?  Even if you zoom all, it zooms way out into space.  I attached my model to the merged model and now that zooms way out as well (which isn't going to make people very happy haha)  any ideas?  I'll send you my model anyway so you can see what I'm seeing.

space junk or someones limits are set to way outer space? you can find out the culprit file by shutting it off than  zoom all brings the merged model inline

It's definitely my file.  If I turn mine off and zoom all, the model zooms in where its supposed to be.  But in cad if I zoom all or zoom extents, my model is right there front and center.

Problem lies with something on each layer TXT Elevations and TXT sizes. If you shut these 2 off and zoom all, the model comes into focus.  Text is way out I suspect.

Bob's right incorrect. :D It's some extraneous data which I cannot find. I purged all and it now uploads and views correctly. I suspect the Civil 3D proxy objects.

Update: I've isolated it to the layer named "zOrigin". First, I purged the block named "zOrigin" and that had no effect. Then I purged the layer named "zOrigin" and it views correctly in Glue.

I see what you mean about the text layers.  That is just normal fabrication duct text.  No blocks associated with sizes or elevations.  Does it do this to your files with text as well?  Or is it just me?  I'm trying to find a way to just hit glue throughout the day, without having to strip the file of everything before glueing.  Looks like freezing layers before glueing doesn't do anything to ignore those layers so I'm not sure what the best approach would be to simplify this.
