Fabrication auto-tagging like items

My goal is to auto-generate Item Numbers on fabrication parts.

I've written a dynamo "script" that does this but my department mentioned that if there is a line of duplicate parts then they want the Item number to be the same for the sake of the field guys.

So, the ONLY piece of software I've found is Applied Software's numbering tool that duplicates item numbers for identical parts. But that costs $100 per user per year. Not a big deal for us.

But, if there are any other options out there I'd like to hear them...

You should post your script and see if anyone can advise how to amend it to achieve what you are after.

this doesn't exist in revit. there is an API plugin from ASTI that helps with this but is not perfect.

Bob didn't noticed that this is in the Revit area.  He is showing an Autocad setting.  I frequently do this.

Sorry, I was pointing out to Bob that you were talking about Revit.
We use a schedule to do the sorting and counting then use the API and code to populate the item numbers in the schedule which pushes the item number to the parts.

Is what you're using with Revit's API self-written or are you talking about the Applied Software plugin?

I've written some things my self but to write a plug-in that would use the "Same Number for Identical Parts" feature would take a long time since, Im guessing, does a lot of comparison of elements.

I've made a Dynamo node that uses the FabricationPart.IsSameAs method from the Revit API.

This one is free and lets you renumber any item. For Item Number, you have to type in the parameter name. Works a treat for us. It doesnt Auto number, you have to pick the order you want renumbering.
