Custom report: Pipe piece with fitting on it
« on: May 10, 2018, 20:42:48 PM »
We have a four pipe copper system for fan coil units. I assign a piece number to every piece of pipe an a particular floor. I then run an optimized pipe cut list to minimize waste. Can anyone think of a way to create a report that will show what one fitting goes on what one piece of pipe in this optimized list? Currently the shop fabricator takes my list along with all the spool drawings home on the weekend and hand writes in what fitting gets sweat onto what piece of pipe on the optimized list. I have attached a sample of the optimized pipe report that I put together leaving a blank column at the end to write in which fitting goes on that piece of pipe.

Thanks for any help/suggestions ;)

Only thing I can think of is a script.  Pick the two objects then write the field to the pipe.  One little hiccup is you will need to write to an external file to make this work.

What you are looking for is the nesting report.

As you can see by my attachment I have the nesting report down. If you look at my attachment there is a blank column at the end that has a heading of FITTINGS. I wanted to know if there was a was to report what fitting goes on that specific piece of pipe on the line item.

we put the unit number in the pallet field and report that. pretty easy to change that property

Add an "item filename" or "item product description", depending on how you are sorting you lists, print object on the end there. If the list sorts by spool name then any fitting with the same spool id should report there. You may have to be diligent with your spool tagging. oh and filter out the pipe on that object

I think I understand what your saying here, but there are many pieces of pipe on the same spool. It doesn't seem the report would know what exact fitting goes on what exact piece of pipe setting it up this way. Thank you for the reply

add a column to your report as shown. use the mprop command and select the fittings/pipe in the model and change the "pallet" value to whatever you want. Probably easier ways to do this also.

You could probably use XYZ values of the connector locations to figure out what pieces are connected. You could script the connector location into a custom data field and then use it in your report.
