Local Profiles VS Network
« on: Apr 15, 2019, 14:54:51 PM »
When creating a new profile, I typically go to the master database, create the profile, update the database and then work in the working database. I have noticed that when the profile is created it is pathed to the network ( in our case the Y: drive). The problem we are running into is working off network. When I load fabcadmep using “takeoff” I get an error saying: “Y:/ACADDWG” “the system cannot find the path specified. Once the error is “ok’d” the database information is not present.

Is there a way to have the system look for the profile on my C: drive? If I understand the file structure correctly the profile on the C: drive (working) should just be a carbon copy of the profile on the Y: drive (master). Any updates to the profile will be handled in the master and update the working as usual.

Will there be issues that arise by doing this?

In the attached screen shots, I show the one profile pathed to the Y: drive (our network) and the error code that comes up when we are not working on the network. The last screen shot shows the path I would like each profile to have on our C: drive.

In the Map.Ini file, you can specify a different location for your profiles. When creating a profile with Separate Database, your creating a copy of the database in that profile, Items will be the only thing that are shared with the settings in your pic. If you have Separate Items, you are truly using a separate database with separate items from your Global. Meaning, you will need to go into the profile to update it if you have made any changes outside of items. It would be nice to have to option to share other database options as well, that way you can update from a master location.

I have also found, do not try to repath using the path tool in the profiles, set your location in the INI.

So your saying put the path to the Working Database in place of the .profile map?

Instead of:

Profiles=./Profiles

it should read

Profiles=C:\Autodesk Fabrication\Working Database\PROFILES

or any shared location if you have multiple users accessing it. But yes, you can put the exact location and that will point the profiles to that exact location without breaking everything else out.
