Duct and Pipe in the same database?

(1/1)

wwessels:
Just curious, for those of you that have sheet metal and piping in your BIM workflows. Do you use a separate configurations for sheet metal and piping?

Darren Young:
Same config.

I've had people push for separating them over the years but I've always pushed back on that. Can't really give a good reason aside from being to model both trades in the same model but it just seems like a bad idea to split them because it'll be difficult to put them together again should you ever need to.

craigjonnson:
We have them within the same database. Much easier to manage in terms of workflows. Estmep, CAM, CAD, Revit. On the Revit side, you can only load in 1 database configuration period. In case you decide to go down that road, it's worth noting.

cnash:
We have them in the same database.
Previously we used the same database but two different configs (map.ini, etc.) so we could have different annotations in CADmep. But with the move to Revit we don't need to do that any longer.

Also, if you plan to use Revit and have ductwork and pipework in the same file they HAVE to be on the same database since you cannot load two databases/profiles.
