Getting Started with Stratus - Step 1
« on: Feb 05, 2020, 05:55:43 PM »
If you're going to get going w/Stratus, one of the first things you can do now is get your database in order.

Specifically, for years pipe OD was driven by the Specification for a material.

Later on, this changed to hosting the Pipe OD directly in the material.

And yet later, ID was added.

If you're going to drive a tool like a Watts or Vernon Pipe Cutter, the wall thickness is key for a software like PypeServer that Stratus works with.

You need to make sure your Piping Materials are set to include OD and ID. Additionally, if you have those old entries still stuck in the Specs, remove them.

If Fabrication sees both methods (Spec based OD's and Material Based OD's) it defaults to the Specification based (or so has been my experience in testing).

If you have the OD's set in Specs, or only the OD in Materials (not ID), the calculation of the wall thickness is...
(OD - Nominal)/2.

Having the OD and ID only in material allows the calculate for wall thinkness to be...
(OD - ID)/2

BTW, even if NOT going to Stratus, this is a good idea to implement if you've been one of those long time customers.

A Simple COD script can help remap any piping ITM's to the new material setup.

Darren,

To implement this change to our database do you recommend using a whole new material or just fill in missing information?
What do i do with OD that is already set up under Specification for same named Material.

You should be able to just add the ID to the existing materials. No need to add new materials unless there's some other issue with them that you're trying to work around.
