IP Ratings
« on: Nov 19, 2003, 16:45:37 PM »
I am working on a  roof top plantroom. Some of the electrical equipment is being custom manufactured and will be mounted on an area of the roof which is totally exposed to the elements. I have been asked to specify a suitable IP rating by the manufacturer. I have asked a number of colleagues but none of them can give me a satisfactory answer. It would be easy for me to be cautious and state a worst case of IP67 but that would be extremely expensive.

Any help/guidance greatly appreciated.

Merlin Gerin rate their external MV Ringmaster units at IP54, If your switchboards are LV I am sure this would be adequate unless they are installed in an area intended to be hosed down (during routine cleaning etc.) with pressured jets.

Isn't IP67 marine grade for boats? We spec IP55 for all rooftop switchboards. Even on a data centre I recently did they used IP55 and a lot of the plant equipment was marine grade due it being on the harbour.
