Autodesk BIM Collaborate Cloud VS. Server Bound

(1/1)

Shaun1119:
Can anyone explain the pros and cons of Autodesk Collaborate (Cloud based work) vs working of a local server. I have worked with both and looking to just get some feedback. Rather than just always being able to access models and docs from the cloud, are there other perks?

Thanks.......

Access from anywhere vs limits of speed from your local VPN.  I know our IT dept seems to have ours on slo-mo

Depends who's hosting the project and if you're collaborating with others using it.

If you're collaborating with others, there's more advanced workflows (assuming whoever hosts it sets it up where you have 3 levels of linking..

1) Link to live models...you see updates when others sync and you then sync to reload.
2) Link to "Shared" models...you only see updates to links when the other party chooses to "Share"
3) Link to "Consumed" models...you only see updates when the other person "Shares" and you also "Choose" to consume it.

There's also other workflow where things like Navis models and published drawings can be automated if setup correctly.

Also easier to access in you're remote or o a job site...no need for IT infrastructure. Just an internet connection.

This makes adding external people to your project for collaboration very easy.

Thanks for the information.......
