Prevent parts from nesting inside of Parts
« on: Jan 03, 2024, 17:32:47 PM »
Hello,

I am attempting to cut water rings out for our pipe shop and need the inner circle that is left over for caps. However, when nesting, it will place smaller rings in bigger rings if it fits. I have tried multiple settings in the auto-nest options to try and get it to nest each part separately with no luck. Does anybody know if there is a setting that will prevent this or if somebody could test if they can achieve this? I feel like the setting I need is on the Autonest Options Tab "Pre-Nest Parts in Holes" but enabled or disabled, changes nothing.

There are a couple of things. One might be how you are nesting. Database>Manufacturing>Autonest Options control nesting when you just click on Automatic Nesting, and won't affect how things nest if you use a process in "Setup Processes". If you're using a Process to nest you'll need to adjust the nest settings for that specific process

And then the other is "Allow Nest In Stitched Holes". Make sure that is unchecked.

Jona,

Thanks for your response. We're not using a process, just clicking automatic nest. I figured out yesterday that I had to change my settings as shown in the attached snapshots in order to get it to work how I wanted. We were using NFP Nesting. Correct me if I'm wrong (because I have limited knowledge with nesting), but it seems the "Pre-Nest Parts in Holes" and "Allow Nest In Stitched Holes" settings are not used when "NFP Nesting" is enabled.

I'm not seeing an issue with it when using NFP

We had a somewhat similarly odd thing happen within the last couple of days where a panel from one duct nested into another duct.  The part that nested into the larger duct appears to be one of the panels to the same tap that is supposed to be at that location.

I will see if these settings help fix it.

Jona - Please see attached snapshots. Nest 1 & 2 are identical even though I changed the Nest parts in Holes and stitched holes options. It's not until nest 3 where I change from NFP nesting to True-Shape and uncheck Try to fill gaps after main nesting.

Woah guys!
Throughout the whole of this topic the image attachments have been huge - over 3000px.
It's killing our bandwidth (which has to be paid for).

Please do some image editing before posting. I don't want to get to the situation where I just delete attachments if they are too large. Aim for 750px max.

Thank you.

I apologize. Thank you for cleaning it up this time. Got careless and forgot. Will defiantly remember for the future though.

We changed our settings and things are back on track.  Not sure whey those settings were adjusted.
