Part orientation on insulation nest
« on: Mar 20, 2024, 23:22:24 PM »
I am just gonna throw it out here.  Our shop would like to do have a way for all the insulation for parts to nest portrait. as in long side down the length. I can get gored elbows large than a certain size to nest that way. If I narrow the material width a bit. And only nest gored elbows by themselves.  If I nest other parts with it, the smaller gored elbows orientation changes.  As for any other parts, I can get round couplings to act right if I nest by themselves MOSTLY. A couple may be "landscape".  I tried different nest methods with different settings for several hours.  Any suggestions?

You can fix the nesting orientation of developments by setting the the graining angle restriction to 0. Right-click/Properties, click the developments tab, and cycle through the developments setting the restriction. We do that with spiracoustic liner developments so the rolling direction of the development is orientated correctly for the cuts in the liner. You can also add graining angle to your multiple items properties to do multiple items at once. However, some itms may need a graining angle of 90 instead of 0. Play around with it and see.

The graining angle seems to get most of what I want done. thanks again. I am going to look if I can script it. For when we are doing quick entry in CAMduct.

Good luck. Here was my post asking that question back in 2017.
