Liner adjustment for CID#1134 boot
« on: Jun 17, 2024, 15:26:49 PM »
We have an issue with the insulation on the inner throat of the RA Transfer boot CID#1134.
The liner cuts short only on the inner throat. the outer wrap and both cheeks are correct.
It appears this has been doing this for years, but we are trying to clear up the little things that has been being fixed on the shop floor.
Any suggestions?

Is anyone else having this issue, or similar?

Perhaps a better question might be, is anyone using the cid 1134? or do you prefer to use a couple #3 elbows without vanes?

At the risk of stating the obvious, CID#1134 seems objectively better as we save a connection. I did not look at the development very closely, but CID#1134 seems to be fine with 0" throats. I have personally built, installed, and modeled them this way on many projects. The question is, is this an acceptable solution for you, the engineer, and the owner? Sound transfer is likely the same either way.

@PipeFitter72

In the following example (sorry its metric), the inside is 200+500+200, so you need the liner to measure 250+600+250 (with a 50mm liner) so you can mitre out the folds?

Also, how frequently do you use this pattern?

Yes I think you assessment is correct. We use this pattern often as it saves a joint from connecting 2 elbows. Not having a joint in the middle also allows us to get all the way to structure in tight places.

Our current workaround: I made a connector just for this part and set connector adjust to add 2x insulation thickness on length.. Then the shop trims the excess from the other 3 sides of the connector.

@PipeFitter72

Just following up, I have added this issue to one of our epics that will coming into focus. I can't guarantee we can improve this but I'll follow up here in the future when we have complete the investigation.
