Unlock insulation on ITM
« on: Jun 25, 2024, 15:30:23 PM »
I had a part that had the insulation locked to none used in a model.  When I unlock the ITM and reload the DB, the new parts work as intended.  The old parts still don't show the insulation, even if the insulation spec is picked correctly.  I also tried throwing a revision on the ITM but to no avail.

Anyone have a way to fix this? I haven't gotten into Dynamo but wondering if that would help.

If versioning didn't work, depending on the scenario, we will copy the originals out x' amount to the side. Verify the copies are acting as intended. Delete the original. Move copies back x' amount and reconnect. (I believe a copy to clipboard and paste aligned to current view will work as well, but it's been awhile since I had to do it.) If the copies are acting the same way as before you reload config, not much to do besides redraw. I don't think I have tried using dynamo for insulation spec, so I can't say without trying.

I have found some examples for insulation but I didn't look into in detail if it was spec or insulation.  I would love to dive into since it seems to be a great opportunity to get some Dynamo scripting in.

Insulation Side and Insulation Material are read-only in the Revit API (and by extension, Dynamo). Any modifications to these values must be done through FabricationPart.InsulationSpecification. In the Revit API there is no "Inside/Outside". This is all accessed through Insulation/Lining Area, Thickness, Type... Additionally, locks aren't a thing in the Revit API, with Connectors being the only exception. The linked examples are all working with Revit Duct/Pipe. Those aren't the droids you're looking for.

The only work around we had, was exporting the piping into AutoCAD as a MAJ, fixing it in there, then importing it back into a new blank Revit file, then copy and pasting it into the original. It sucks, but seems to be the easiest method for us so far.
