Access Weight Item Weight Property WITHOUT Product List

Is there a way to add weight to an item in the library without using the product list?

Is this something that requires scripting?

Under the Costing tab there is a Weight field.

DotNet:
Weight by area can also be added to individual materials. This is typically how weight for sheetmetal ITMs is calculated.
