Breakpoints for pipe flanges
« on: Nov 30, 2024, 09:46:01 AM »
Hi there,

I am just wondering if anyone can give me a breakdown on what each of the headings represent when doing a pipe flange connector. (unfortunately not all the dims appear in my little preview view)

A - Pipe diameter (get that)
B - Extension (assume set this to 10-15mm for how far back from flange face to end of pipe?)
C - Snap offset (get that, set to 0 as i have a gasket itm that comes in now)
D - Body thickness (i thought this was the OD of the flange, was miles too big so thought might have been half the OD but again too big?)
E - Body length (is there a way to add a snap point to this? sometimes we need to give dims for flange thickness especially on the bigger sizes when they are specd by code and not 1092 etc
F / G / H - again not really sure what they are for but dont seem to impact anything.

sorry if this is basic stuff but just wanted to check i was picking this up right (the body thickness one being the main one that's throwing me off)

thanks

Hey Steph,

The body thickness is the flange diameter, however, the previous dialogue box has an option to include the pipe diameter (Yes/No). I'm guessing that you have this set to No if the flange is really large.
B - Extension from End of Fitting. I usually have this set to 1.6mm to allow the pipe to slip-in and set back for the internal weld.

Anyway, there's a heap of material on this here. https://help.autodesk.com/view/FABRICATION/ENU/?guid=GUID-54822E43-E639-4ECA-84BB-7AD66C109D21

Did not know those resources existed.
Excellent, it is a bit confusing for Mech. I think some of the terms are from sheet metal.

There is an entire help file on the software which is mostly what was given to us back at a LVUGM (2009?). It was a binder with about 1100 pages.

Is there anyway to add snap points to break points so you can get a snap from the outside edge of a flange in revit?

many thanks
