Round tap off of oval duct
« on: Feb 02, 2016, 16:15:35 PM »
I am trying to create a tap off of oval to round and am having trouble finding a CID that I can use to create such a part. Any ideas on which ones I could use?

That's because you are probably looking at OVAL templates, look under ROUND templates, there are many, for example, we have Straight Taps, Conical Taps, Lateral Taps, Boot Taps, etc...

CIDs 875, 751, 871

I am using CID#875 and using the attacher it inserts fine but I get an error message (see attachment), but it will not insert this tap inside of design line. Is there a setting I am not applying to the part that will allow it to be inserted in design line?

I've never tried it in DL.... will test and see if I can get it to work in DL, but not sure if the program "knows" how to inset a round tap into oval, as the tap distance from center is figured from ROUND duct, NOT oval...

Yeah, can't test this in DL, ours is set up to automatically add a OVAL TEE with ROUND tap...

Yea it looks like I'll have to use a tee which is fine, I just need it to place something for estimating purposes.

Then definitely you need to use FULL Oval Fittings for a comprehensive estimate, it takes more shop labor to fab an oval tee than just a tap, plus field installed taps are not allowed by most engineers... this should also affect your field labor hours...

Somehow our Round off Oval stopped working correctly (in multiple versions).
Pulled up an old copy of our database and it works in there with essentially the same settings so I am unsure if it's a connector issue or not.
What patterns/settings is everyone using in this scenario nowadays? I'm willing to rebuild a specific fitting for this instance if needed.

What CID are you using for a round tap off of oval duct?

Tried 154 and 159. I can make them work when placing them manually, but designline doesn't seem to like them.
154 used to work, but connectors were jacked. Now that connectors have been fixed and work well for everything, neither of these seem to want to work.

I gave up on design line a long time ago, never was able to get it working 100% correct...

Unfortunately we need to use it for ESTmep, so we don't have much of a choice.
