Swapping out material on an entire service

Hello XtraCAD,

It's been a minute since I have posted here, and just getting back to this industry, while relatively new to the Revit environment. So, apologies in advance if this is common knowledge...

I was looking for a way to swap out the material on a entire service. For example, changing a 4" Domestic Water Service from copper solder to 4" stainless Victaulic. I knew how to do this in the CadMech world, and hoping to replicate this on the Revit side...

All you need to do is select your piping and you'll see a "change service" button in your ribbon. In the palette that pops up you can select the new service you want that piping to be. There are other options there so you can swap out specific mapped parts like valves.

I've never had this work perfectly, so expect to go back and reconnect fittings/add missing tees etc... I've had the most success when changing to services that are similar, like changing a copper press service to a stainless press. It has trouble when you change it drastically like changing PVC to cast iron.

I think it trips up on swapping fittings that have different take-offs or if the new/old service has specific couplings or welds between fittings. I try to avoid doing this as much as possible, and if it's a small enough section of pipe, I often just redraw so I know everything's right... Maybe someone else can chime in with any other tips.
