Replacing Materials on a Takeoff
« on: Jan 31, 2007, 13:34:49 PM »
The only way we know off to convert an entire job from one material to another (For Alternate Pricing, say from Galvanized to Paintgrip) is to select the entire takeoff (Sometimes hundreds of fittings) and go to Properties and change the material there, but, it always comes out with the new material and the Gauges to "BLANK" and LOCKED!!!, then you have to manually edit each fitting and UNLOCK the Gauge so that the Pressure Class (Specification) can drive the gauge.

This is very cumbersome at best, do anyone know of a better way to change materials on the fly that will also adhere the pressure class driven gauges?

Hi VP,

If you've got Scripting enabled then type the following into a text document (NotePad) and call it UnlockGauge.cod

item.gaugelock = "false"

When you have changed your Material the way you are doing it, then run the cod file on all the items in the file and it will unlock the gauge box.

Then all you need to do is select the items and pick "Change Specifications". If the correct spec is showing then just "Ok" that or select the correct spec and press "OK". That will re-develop the items and reset the gauges to the selected Spec.

Try it out on a small test file and check if this is what you want first.

Hope it works

Don :)

VP:

You don't have the scripting option enabled on your dongle.

It was an extra cost at the time of purchase.

You mean when you buy a car for $4,000, and then you put $10,000 wheels and tires on it, you don't want to pay more to put air in the tires?  ;)  You are not alone.  :x

Improvements have been made to multiple item properties when the material is changed.

If only the material is changed then the gauge is no longer locked - an attempt is made to map the gauge to the new material by matching the thickness of it. The gauge will only be locked on if you select to lock it - otherwise the specfication will enforce a new gauge anyway.

Other improvements will allow things like selecting a group of fittings and just locking/unlocking the gauge, even if you haven't changed it.

This will be availble in the next release.

Great news David, this is really needed for the Estimating side badly, since there are many jobs out there where customers want alternate prices for different materials.

When is the next release being....well...release?
