Effective Diameter Troublesome Discovery
« on: Oct 15, 2007, 21:55:21 PM »
Andy or Nick....

We just discovered a huge error in the program while looking at developments on a job we recently got, The King's Daughters - Princess Anne Office Building, we recently completed the tables for effective diameter so that ALL of our Oval sizes follow the correct sizes and not having to manually edit every oval size, this has worked perfectly until we found on this particular job we have fittings that have the sizes reversed, i.e. instead of 71"x18" oval, is 18"x71" oval, this happens when you have Easy Bends or go from Vertical to Horizontal.  What we found is that the program is NOT using the TABLE whatsoever if the sizes are backwards, 18"x71", so the final developments of those fittings are all incorrect, luckily we found this before we CAM'd and shipped this job.

Is the program supposed to use *any* size on the table, or do we now need to invest another day "adding" reversed sizes to the table?

I think this should be in Big Bold Red Letters at the front of Effective Diameter Help file....

VP:
We are not going to use oval or double wall until you get all the bugs worked out, so you are in your own little world for now. :D ;) :D

VP, are you using "connector dependent" oval sizes? Cause mine are working. See Picture

I am using CID#113 for the offset and CID#107 for the elbow.

Cam-Nav, yep, we are using Connector Dependant Effective Diameter Table, but we do not get the same as you. It would be very hard to compare, since I do not know how you have your connectors set up, we have our "Bead" connector set to use the effective diameter table.

12"x22" is not a good oval size, it would required a 18.67 diameter tube to make that, with an 18" round tube, you can get 21"x12" or 12"x21", but our problem is that when the program "sees" 12"x21" is not using the table at all.

We went into the trouble of adding all of the "reversed" sizes to the table and it seems to be working now, we are still testing.

An oval easy elbow on our end is CID 109, if I plug in a 12"x21" size, I get a developent stretch of 56.702, so substracting the seam allowance of 3/8", will make the elbow slightest smaller than 18" round equivalent, thus, fitting into pipe, or male size.

Like I said, we are still testing this, since before we added 12"x21" to the table, any fitting with reversed sizes were developing incorrectly, they were not using the Connector Dependant table as you showed up there.

Dennis, I am positive that MAP/TSI will get this Oval/DW worked out sooner than we think, specially if they want to bring UNITED SHEETMETAL into the table  :)  ;)

I know this is a zombie thread but I just want to say thank you to all all who contribute to this site. Even old threads like this still have value.

Thank you Ken! If it wasn't for this site, a lot of us would be in a lot of trouble trying to figure out things that the program cannot do or does it wrong... I know you have helped in the past as well!

We are going down this oval path and my head hurts with all the new information but I am making progress. What I gleaned from this is when you mentioned having the connector setup for the Effective Diameter...that is what I was missing.

Also, I noticed that I need to add all the sizes in reverse as well.  :o

Oh, and stop posting...I will never pass you in post counts if you keep responding.  :P lol
