AutoCAD 2009 performance and memory issues
« on: Sep 26, 2008, 20:57:38 PM »
I've heard there are performance and memory issues with some of the new features on ACAD2009. Has anyone experienced issues? if so, can you elaborate on what new features might be involved? I have just loaded 2009 and was doing some research on the Autodesk forum. That's where I caught wind of possible issues.

I haven't installed my 2009 but I know someone who was having plotting issues with it. I believe it was an isometric view and some would plot others wouldn't.

I've been using 2009 since it came out. In my opinion it is just 2008 with a Vista face lift.
I'd do this for beer but my wife insists on money ;)

I'm skipping it altogether and wait for 2010...

I agree with CJ's comment and with Santos. I don't see any real benefit to upgrading to 2009 at this point and confusing 13 detailers - some will like to play with it (wasting time) for others their heads may explode when they see the new toolbar and menu layouts (even when set to 'Classic View' it's appearance is different and takes getting use to). Either way I have unproductive people.
Has anyone found that upgrading to 2009 has been a benefit and increased productivity?

That's a relative term....in all, every version of CAD just brings new features, some that will help in some areas in terms of how fast you can do something, but in the end, the overall productivity of creating full set of drawings, relies heavily on how dedicated your users are... and very little on eye candy...

I have noticed a considerable slow down when selecting items simply because of the new pop-up properties window (which you can disable). And also the CADduct report print preview (from PPREVIEW command) screws with Auto-CAD's ability to display toolbars correctly.
Also table styles in 2009 have been changed so that adding a BOM to spool drawings has changed and is nearly impossible to get right, at least in v115. Maybe v163 has fixed this.

I remember Andy Robins mentioning that the Tables in 2009 were messed up.

I have been using 2009 for a while now, and not had any issues with it. (Though I do not use tables, so cannot comment on this)

I decided not to upgrade the vast majority of the other 13 guys here though, as there seems to be very little on offer that 2008 offered (other than a confusing new menu!! VistaCAD!)

I'd stick with 2008
