Lost Server, setting change
« on: Aug 15, 2005, 15:55:05 PM »
When the server is lost, PM2000 adds new folders and changes ini files to default settings.
Is there a way to set up PM2000 not to do this, or at least give a warning.

I take it you have everything on the network path - MAP.INI included.

If you had this local (eg. c:\cam) and just setup the database, items etc paths to be networked then you would get a warning message "Corrupt Database" if the network paths were not available.

I'm not sure what you would expect the program to do if the 'Start In' folder for the application is not valid, as without a MAP.INI the program doesn't know where to look for any of its files.

There is a fallback for this situation though - if the registry key

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MAPLTD\PM2000\Install Path"

exists and that points to a valid alternative installation folder where a MAP.INI resides then the program will automatically switch to using that to locate it's files if the original 'Start In' folder is not available.

I am running the program from "c" including the .ini files and using PM shared on the server.
How can I run the ini files from the server?

If your ini files are local but your database and other paths are networked then you should get a "corrupt installation" message if the networked paths are not available.

It will use a temporary (default) database for the program to use but will not save any files back or create any local folders (in fact if you go into the database and click ok you should get an error saying that the database could not be saved.

As I said, the only way you don't get a message and local files are created should be if the "Start In" folder on the shortcut you click to run PM2000 is itself a network path that is unavailble.

To check this, right-click the shortcut you use to run PM2000 and select "Properties". If the "Start In" folder in that form begins with something like "\\remotepc" then this path must be available or else the program will default to creating local folders to work with. Note the "Target" (PM2000 itself) can still be remote but obviously if that path is not available the program won't run at all.

Hope that helps clear things up a little.
