Adjustable Elbow
« on: Sep 13, 2005, 18:07:25 PM »
Is there a way to make one of the other elbow item work for an adjustable elbow? I can change the angle of the elbow I know but it also shortens the finished size... It sounds lie a real task figuring out the length on an adjustable elbow at a paticular angle... Can it be done?
Thank you, Marcus

There is a fitting in the libary i believe its cid 155.You can play with it,but as i remember from what Cj said it was a little troublesome.Maybe he can explain.I have not use it. I Just figured the set out as far as a offset.

If you are talking Round Ductwork, make a copy of CID#61, edit it and set the Option 14 "Leg Lengths" to Yes, now look at the dimensions tab, you enter centre line distances for the lengths. Easy.
Same for Pipework, CID#2523

Andy,i'll try this, but not sure if the outcome is what he's suggesting(or my take on it) as far as the gores being able to rotate against one another.

Bob is on the right track. All of the gores should stay the same size and they would rotate to create any angel between 0 and 90 (for an adjustable 90 Elbow) Its not real imparative.. I can just fudge the lengths it with my straight pipe... Seems we run into a lot of problems with pre-cutting our spiral pipe anyway...

Thanks Guys...

Here is a Adjustable 90 degree SR elbow. the picture is the same elbow just adjusted to Straight, 45, and 90 degrees. I don't see a way to figure the stretch out (within reason) at any given angle.

Ahh, I see now. Looks like a usefull fitting, I take it these are Bought In items, unless you have a special machine for the gore seams, so they can be joined and rotated.
I still dont see why you cant use 61 for drawing, and set it to Bought Out, you can set any angle.

As the gores are rotated the rise of the centerline of the gores change with the angle thus changing the throat or centerline. You can't just set a gore to be a fixed hieght.Sounds alright here now.Maybe someone else could give a shot at explaining.

Anyone figured this one out in all these years?
Trying to get some info from manufacturers on dimensioning depending on angle but haven't gotten anything yet.

Never tried a variable angle fitting, but many of my valves have formulas that change the dimensions depending of other values, in my case, pipe length, diameters and other, but you can use it for angle in this case as there is no conditionals in the calculated fields this present a double challenge, but is an idea. This could be really easy, if the length of the gore and the other dimensions obey a formula, if not, then not sure if it is possible.

I'm with Andy on this one. If were using adjustable elbows it's small low pressure round and 61 will be "close enough".

Anyone figured this one out in all these years?

I would be surprised if you did. There are literally dozens of ways to adjust these. You can make an offset out of an adjustable elbow if you wanted to.

I actually had one of our guys bring one into the office so I can see exactly what bends I can make with the ones we buy. Out of a 90 Adjustable I can get (1) offset, (1) 60 Elbow & (2) 30 Elbows. There are more 2-way offsets you can get as well, but I'm not worried about those. No chance of a 45 out of a 90 unless you break it in half and use the top half alone.
