Appending files in Navisworks
« on: Dec 17, 2010, 20:34:51 PM »
Is there a way to append files into Navis that have xref's but not have those come into Navis?  My basic Job drawing format is I have my models then HVAC, Elec, Fire, etc as separate CAD files.  In my models I Xref these in.  But for Navis I have to wblock out my stuff to a subfolder for example.  This is just having more of the same files floating around.  Can navis just use my regular model but ignore the Xref's?

I believe there is a setting in Tools/Global Options where you check boxes to not import text, xrefs etc. Not sure though it has been awhile and I am not at work to check.

Awesome, found it under the regular options.  :D

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you're in a model and go to the Navis options in the program, that's the settings for that model only, right?  And under the start menu/Autodesk/Navisworks Manage/Options Editor, this is the global one....but this option isn't under the global option.

Either way, thanks for the tip, that will save me time and not have multiple files floating around!!

I'm pretty sure that what you set in Navis options editor will be global for all models similar to how AutoCAD tools/options works.

If your exporting nwc's by using the nwcout command then type in nwcopt and you can set your export settings.  You can also export your settings from Navis and import them into autocad.

Go to Navisworks options - File Readers - DWG/DXF and uncheck the Convert Xref box.

I am the one and only at this office bknapton. Thank You Bob.
Something new and odd for me.
Why everything is disappearing when I look to an specific direction in navis? It just started doing it today.

space junk (objects very far away from the main model).

Find the offending drawing and remove.  You can also select everything around the main bldg, and then Right-Click on the highlighted items in your Selection Tree, and then select "Hide Unselected".
