Navisworks Filter
« on: Jul 12, 2011, 20:07:37 PM »
Is there a way in Navis to have it run clashes by certain areas only? Say you have a job split in quadrants and want to run clashes by each area.  I never got official training on Navis and am currently seeing how to do this but if anyone can give me some tips, it'd be much appreciated!

Thanks.

Are the seperate zones different dwgs? Or is there a specifc word in the layer name of each zone? You can create selection sets if there is something that you can filter in navisworks "find" command. You can use bavisworks find to isolate a CADduct/Mech section and then run a collision that way.

Yep, you can totally do that. You just need to make SELECTION SETS of the various trades in each quadrant.  Selections Sets are available in Clash Detective.

I thought about utilizing the Zone field in CADmech but not everything is CADmech so the filter wouldn't work...was curious if I could Select everything from a plan view in a quadrant and run separated collisions that way...?

OK,

1. Open your selection set window in Nvaisworks
2. Select "Select Window" and window the items you want groupped togethor
3. While they are selected put your curser in the "Selection Sets" window and right clickt
4. Pick "Add current selection"

Hope it helps.

Just run the clash against the selection set.

OK, starting to get there...starting to think I should setup a set for each discipline/area, like Area A - PLBG, Area A - HVAC, etc. that way I still have control of what I'm clashing....I'll give it a try....thanks!

I guess only crappy thing is when the CAD files get updated, these items won't be included in the selection set.  Can you give Clash Detection parameters in coordinates maybe?

Your right, you would loose the items selected if items are deleted or if items are added.

Never have tried coordinates. Sorry :(

Dang! or how about, when you run the clash and look at results, you can see the coordinates, and below that it tells you what is clashing with what from each file.  In these windows you can Group similar items....is there a way to display the coordinates down here and group them?  Or do I hope too much? :D

I don't have Navis but can you use an object select the area that you want to divide?  As an example, insert a cube that encompasses each of the areas.  Then use that as a selection set.  I may be way out there though in my thinking.
