Title: Main Facing - Can anyone explain how this works?

We are trying to run costs/area for lined and externally lagged ductwork by applying a Main face.
It is experimental, and the results are not adding up.

A 250x250 x 10m (metric) Duct reports 10 sqm. If this duct is broken into TDF frames at 1.4m long, the facing adds 50%
I cannot find any help on any forum regarding facings and their functions. Can someone please explain their use?

Other than hatch patterns :)

I believe there was something also causing my issues in the database regarding costing.  They were adding in a % for waste from what I remember.  I didn't investigate further since that was beyond my control.
