Easy way to select services
« on: Mar 30, 2015, 18:23:01 PM »
While looking at the Enceptia video regarding designline export, he selects the entire system after several tabs.  I can highlight the system but can't seem to make a selection set from that though (the filter button in the ribbon isn't showing up).

What am I doing wrong?

I also remember somewhere where I was able to just select an entire system within Revit and isolate it via a dialog box.   Say I want to select all of the storm pipes and/or include sanitary pipes, how do I do that?

I have not come across a Revit file that is structured well enough to isolate by system. The hover tab thing you are talking about threw me for a loop too for a while. You have to keep your cursor hovered over the first item while you hit Tab.

Are you familiar with using and creating filters in revit?  Using the tab feature, hover over the the desired pipe.  Then hit the tab key.  You will see in the lower left corner a description of what you are selecting. example, TAB 1 : "Branch in a pipe network including the branch", TAB 2: "Branch in a pipe network up to a piece of equipment", TAB 3: "Pipe network".

This process of extracting out content from Revit is all dependent on how the Designer used Revit.  One out of five Revit files I get is used correctly.  Another issue you will run into is coordinates.  90% of designers do not know there is a project base point in Revit.

I typically will spend a few hours creating filters in Revit so I can isolate the systems one by one to create my Revit Intelligent File (rif).

I have been keeping it over the item but once I tab to the group that I want, I can't figure a way to keep it selected in order to start the RIF process.

I have noticed the information shown up when using the tab like you stated. Didn't know there are filters in Revit. I guess I need to find some information on that

Type VG (Visual Graphics).  5th tab over is the filter tab.

Okay, that looks familiar.  They must have setup filters on a previous project.  I will dig into this later.  Thank you.

This worked for setting up filters. Thank you.
I still need to figure how to keep the selection set with the tab option as well but this is a start.

After you highlighted the service using tab, did you left click on it to select it before moving your cursor off of the  system?  then go to store design line elements , then hit the out Arrow?

It's the little things you do that make up the big picture of who you are.

The left click is what I was missing. Thank you
