Phasing vs Filters for MEP ductwork
« on: Jan 18, 2018, 15:00:19 PM »
Question: Is there a way to show Previous phase ductwork (MEP Fab Parts) grey while showing new ductwork in color?

My Assumptions/Givens:
  • Revit 2018
  • The only way to color MEP fab Parts in a view is via view filtering or manual overides
  • View filters are higher priority than phase overrides
  • Phase is not available for use in filters (to create phase 1 duct filter and phase 2 duct filter separately}
Further details: I have a phased project. I have completed phase 1 ductwork and am moving into phase 2. On my phase 2 drawing I have applied the phase as well as the filter "Show Previous and New". The ductwork from phase 1 is showing colored just like phase 2 even though it is existing because the phase filter overrides are lower priority than view filter overrides.

You could try X-referencing the Phase 1 drawing into your Phase 2 file, and through the layer property manager change the x-ref colors to gray? Or set the transparency only those x-ref layers? This should leave your main Phase 1 file the way it is, and only override it in the phase 2 file. If you go with the transparency route, make sure you set the plot option to plot transparency

Edit: Wait, I may have jumped the gun. You're asking for this in Revit?

You wont be able to use Phase Overrides in conjunction with Filters. You could create a view that contains color at the category level so you wouldn't have color by Service but non-the-less you'd have visual distinction between the phases.

@tonyHolsinger - Yes this was for revit.
@davidratx - That is unfortunate. I thought that was the case, but hoped someone else knew something I did not. The filters also override the centerline settings on MEP ductwork.
