Revit Family .txt file
« on: Jul 11, 2023, 16:41:12 PM »
I am loading a Revit family into a project. I have the .rfa and the .txt file in the same location. When I bring the family into revit, I am not getting the window prompting me to select the models I want to bring in. Any idea or work around?

Thanks,
Shaun

Attached is the folder that contains the .rfa and the .txt files. If someone could try can bring them into a project

You need to open the family and then "Import Family Types". Depending on which year of Revit you are opening, you may get an error. If so, you can open the .txt file and edit it to make it work. Inside of your "Fan_Coil_Unit-Concealed_Horizontal_With_Plenum-Carrier-42DC-.txt" I replaced the line of text with the second screen shot.

You dont need to open the family and "Import Family Types". This is what the txt file is for.
This is a type based Revit family. It works by having both the Revit Family and txt in the same folder with the same name, except for the extensions. .rfa, .txt.
You can only bring these into revit by selecting the Insert Family option, some people drag and drop them into Revit. This doesnt work.
Another thing is that Autodesk changed the database identifiers in Revit 2022 which does screw up some of the type based catalogues.
I opened this in 2020 with no issues.

Ive attached a powershell script that updates the txt files. I run this in a 2021 library folder and it updates all the txt files to the new identifiers. Its built to US specifications so you should be OK. You can always open it and review the list.

Autodesks list of changes are here https://help.autodesk.com/view/RVT/2021/ENU/?guid=Revit_API_Revit_API_Developers_Guide_Introduction_Application_and_Document_Units_html
