Extra cut on TDF at laser table

I have searched and I have not found a similar post. Not saying their isn't one.
The shop foreman brought me a piece of duct with a TDF end. The end has an extra slit the laser is putting in.
Of course when he asked the operator when it started, he said "months ago".
Has anyone experienced this extra cut?
