Splitters not working on CID#17 with unequal widths
« on: Aug 04, 2025, 19:06:11 PM »
We are seeing where a splitter is not being produced on a radius elbow where the entering and exiting widths are not equal. As an example, the 34x28 elbow reduces to 28x28. The Inner Radius is set to Half Width.

I tried reversing the entering and exiting sizes but no change. If I change the inner Radius to 14" (half of the exiting width) then the splitters work.  This leads me to believe it is looking at the 2nd width not the 1st width. Again, swapping the two widths doesn't seem to work.

What am I missing?

Ken did you try instead of using Half radius option, actually putting in the Half Number Radius. Just a thought here.

yes I did. the vanes didn't show until I reduced the value further (should have activated at 17 but shows at 14).

Also, the same elbow when it is 34x28 without the reducing part shows the splitters.

On another note, I checked AI and this was the result. The example given is obviously mine on this site. I am not worried about AI taking my job.

The issue with the Autodesk Fabrication 2024 splitter not displaying on a reducing elbow may be related to incorrect settings or mapping in your service database. Check the configurations and ensure that the splitter is properly assigned to the elbow type in your design.

Issue with Splitters on Reducing Elbows
Overview
In Autodesk Fabrication 2024, users have reported issues with splitters not displaying correctly on reducing elbows, particularly when the entering and exiting widths are unequal. This can affect the design and functionality of duct systems.

Common Causes
CID Patterns: Certain CID patterns, like CID#17, may not generate splitters when the dimensions do not match. For example, a 34x28 elbow may fail to produce a splitter if the widths are not equal.
Connector Settings: The behavior of connectors, especially the "Straight" property, can influence how splitters are applied. If the settings are not configured correctly, it may lead to unexpected results.
Troubleshooting Steps
Check CID Pattern: Ensure you are using the correct CID pattern that supports splitters for reducing elbows.
Review Connector Properties: Verify the connector settings, particularly the "Straight" property, to ensure they align with the design requirements.
Manual Placement: If automatic generation fails, try manually placing the elbow in the design line to see if it fills correctly.
Software Updates: Ensure that you are using the latest version of Autodesk Fabrication, as updates may include bug fixes related to this issue.
Conclusion
If the problem persists after following these steps, consider reaching out to Autodesk support or community forums for further assistance.

Here is a picture of the settings as well. I messed with the straights but there was no change

I believe if you zero out your Min Width/Throat you'll get the result you are looking for.

That does work but will apply to all elbows. I can change the splitters via a script though. Thanks for the work around!
