I am new to the site and work out of SMW Local 104 in Central Ca.

I have a question regarding .IFC drawings. My G.C is using a 3d modeling program called TEKLA. They would like us to use this sytem for BIM Coordination. I can use IFCEXPORT to send drawings to their site but the command IFCIMPORT or AECIFCIMPORT prompts an "UNKNOWN COMMAND".

How do I successfully import these IFC model drawings?

I am using Acad 2011  with the latest version of Cad-Duct.

Thanks in advance for the help,
Howard

Use open and you can choose ifc. You'll get a dialog that prompts you for a name.Going to need at least arch or mep platform

Thanks for the quick response. One of our engineers has MEP. Can I download and convert the ifc's to dwg's and pull them off our server. This seems like the roundabout way of doing it but if it will work.

Yep
If you had fabduct you could have them export to .bix .ifcxml .ifczip.The bix is really slick

Do you have any experience with the TEKLA program? Should I recommend that the G.C. use Navisworks as  coordination tool? This is frustrating not being able to use their program.

They "the G.C." have Navis but are reluctant to want to use it. They prefer to use the Tekla system. If i cannot navigate the sytem like in Navis I don't see the benefit for the team. It seems like I am not the only one experiencing these problems. I have asked them to save in dwg format well see if that helps.
Thanks again btw for your help,
Howard

I also believe they can export to navis right from tekla.Might be another option.
