So we are considering purchasing Est-MECH as a standalone estimating product but are also impressed with QuickPen’s onscreen take-off.  Has anyone out there actually used both?? I want something that is QUICK when it comes to a standard take-off!

Thanks!

EST also has On-Screen takeoff.... you might want to check that out with TSI...

Should have been more specific. :) I am actually comparing the Est-MECH onscreen with QuickPens. Thanks!

Then, is all a matter of what feels better for you, would you also be using the CAD side?, if so EST would be a better choice for interoperability...

I do not have a need for CAD at this time. Only a "Stand Alone" Estimating product.. TSI has done an online presentation but things always look different in a presentation that when you actually use the product. Which brings me to my question... Has anyone out there used both?

We have EST and Quickpen in house, EST is my preferred system, but I have an old estimator that refuses to learn it and is sticking with Quickpen even though is older than a dinosaur...

We have been using QuickPen for years and it is my personal choice.  It does everything we need it to do, except interact with CAD (we purchased the cad programs from TSI a couple years ago).  We use the digitized graphical takeoff, and have tremendous speed doing it.  We are currently setting up some EST-Mech stations, and it's been a struggle.  Documentation and support suck.  When you have a support person tell you to 'just play with it and you will figure it out', that speaks volumes to me.  But, we've gone too far down the path to turn back now.  TSI does a lot of stuff and has it's applications, you just need to decide exactly how much program you need.

I have searched Hi & Low and can't find one person that is happy with the estimating software. I think it makes sense to go with QuickPen. Thank you all for your input!!

I am.... and like I said above, is a matter of what you feel more comfortable with, I have been thru many Estimating softwares in the past, beginning with my own built in Lotus, then Excel, then Estimation, then Q-Soft, and now EST, tasted Quickpen a little when I came to work here, but stuck with EST, and believe me, it is a lot better now than it was 3 years ago... and still evolving....
