Trying to think of a way to include on my spool BOM the elevation of horizontal pipe. This way our shop guys can mark the elevation on that pipe. This would eliminate me having to add the elevations on the spool map. I know I can add the Z connector, but what I'm thinking is there a way to only do 1 horizontal pipe on the spool, if not and it reports all the pipe, that is fine, except for verticals. Any way to filter this type of stuff? Like if the X,Y are the same, but the Z changes, don't report it?
Any thoughts?

You could have a script run and put the values you want into a custom field. You could eliminate the Z-axis changes in the script and just have horizontal elevations write to the field for printing.

Hmmm. Great idea. I like it. Keep us posted. That would save us some drawing time and give us cleaner drawings.

CAM, not even sure where to start on this. I'm still having troubles writing scripts dealing with writing output, etc. Any pushes in the right direction would be appreciated. Is there maybe a similar script out there? I'm pretty good at taking the sample scripts and tweaking them. So far, it's the only way I can learn since there's no real documentation or training on scripting.
Thanks.

Could you make a seperate report for the horizontal pipe, then ADDREPORT after you spooled but only select the one piece you want?

well at that point I may as well just manually tag the elevation with the Levels button, right?

OK, so I've been messing around with this a little more. Instead of diving into the scripting, I have settled on the temporary solution to just list the Z connector on the Spool BOM, even if it lists it for vertical pipe and all pipe.
But now, I have my report done and if I do ADDREPORTS in my model and select the objects to test it, it comes out fine. But once I do an actual spool, the BOM it places calls out all elevations at 0". Then if I erase that and reinsert the BOM using addreports, then it comes in fine. What's the deal here?
AND, I've read a lot of posts but still can't get this to work. I want to combine like items AND get the description to list in order. Now before you start suggesting Sort Order and "Same Number for Identical Parts", I already have those taken care of. But again, when I do the ADDREPORTS in my model, it comes out one way, but when the spool is created, it lists everything a different way, and not the way I want.

Spools can be created as separate entities or as layouts in a parent drawing. That is, one way produces 25 drawings and the other way produces 25 layouts in the parent drawing. The way that produces 25 drawings, I've found, gives the user more control over the output. If you aren't doing your spools this way, it may be worth a try. I've never created the reports or templates that these spools use so I don't know how it all fits together. Experience has shown that fine tuning the output was much easier when the spools were set up to produce individual drawings.

We do not use the "spool in Layout tab" option at this point. The jobs are too big to hold so many spools. But it shouldn't matter either. The report should be the same no matter where it's inserted.

jmerch, I've experienced the same issue as well. I'm wondering if my issues was due to copying a template & modifying the spool template for a new purpose, Did you utilize the same method to create your current spool template?

Yes and no
I created my own template based on sample ones I saw. However I don't think that is the issue. What I mean is my BOM report updated on my spool when I added a column. But the info was incorrect. Doesn't seem it would be because of how the template was setup.

Still have not found a resolution for this. Before I started that post, I had modified our BOM report and it came in fine on actual spools. But as I said, now when i do it, the Elevation stays at 0 unless in my spool file I erase that table and reinsert the report. Any fresh thoughts on this?
