F.A.Q's.

Have you a question you need answering that possibly requires a longer explanation than could be expected to be posted on our forum pages... if so, contact us here.

I've registered on the XtraCAD forum page using my works email address but would prefer to receive updates, etc. to my personal email address so I can retrieve them easier. Is there a way that I can change my email address? Also, when posting, what does it mean on the forum when it says subscribe to this topic... I've not used Bulletin Boards before, so excuse my ignorance!
No problem, these are valid questions ...
We introduced our forum pages as an alternative to a help or FAQ section because it enables everyone to be able to view the topics and, possibly, answer or comment on a posting. This ensures that you have the best chance of getting the right answers.
What we didn't take into account was the fact that some of the features on the forum would be alien to some users. The following explanations will, hopefully, make things a little clearer...

Updating Your Profile...
When you first register on the forum you are sent an email with a randomly generated password. This is to ensure that the registration was genuine and not just somebody giving your email address. You can then go to the forum and log in using the password sent to you.
Once logged in you will see a different header, as shown below, which gives you additional options.

If you click on Profile this will open your own personal profile page and from here you may change your password, email address, etc. or even upload your own avatar (more about these later) if you wish to use one.

Navigating The Forum Pages...
The main forum page shows a list of the groups used, along with a brief description of the kind of material they may contain. By clicking on one of these links you will open up that group and see a list of topics that have been posted. By further clicking on one of the topics you will see all of the comments to date that have been posted regarding that topic.

Starting A New Topic Or Posting A Reply...

If, whilst browsing a topic, you wish to add a comment you may click on the link which says Post reply. Alternatively, if you wish to start a conversation on a fresh subject, click on Post new topic.
When you post a reply or start a new topic you will, providing you are logged in, see the options as shown below.

The first check box merely means that if someone uses smilies (e.g. (-: ) in their messages they will be replaced by the appropriate image (happy face, sad face, etc.). Don't worry too much about these - they're just a trend really like the things people insert when sending text messages!
The second box allows you to subscribe to a topic. We've now amended the page so that it explains more thoroughly what this means (as shown above) but basically, by checking this you are kept informed by email every time that someone adds a comment to that topic.

We've now added the option shown above to your profile page. Check the box and your email will contain a text version of what has been posted, this saves you having to logon to the forum to see the reply.

What About Avatars?
An avatar is just a fancy name for a small image that some members like to use as a visual signature. A couple of examples are...

You can upload an avatar from your Profile Page. Just browse to where the image is on your hard drive and then click on upload avatar. Please note that the maximum size allowed for an avatar is 60x60 pixels.

We hope this has cleared up a few queries. Don't hesitate to contact us if you require any further assistance.
